What is Virtualization?

(View the video)

The next time your IT cronies are hanging out by the water cooler and start talking about virtualization, what they are really discussing is reduced costs, consolidated servers and maximized infrastructure.

Today’s computer systems with high performance CPUs, large amounts of memory and large disk subsystems are often severely underutilized and have more than enough power to run many operating systems simultaneously and reliably.

At a very basic explanation, virtualization is small guest operating system that interacts with all the underlying hardware which allows multiple software servers/operating systems to be installed on a single physical server.

Why should you look at a virtualized environment?

  • Reduce the number of servers in any test, development or production environments
  • Improve overall performance
  • Reduce Costs and increase agility
  • Increase server utilization
  • Increase interoperability in heterogeneous environments (Run Windows Server or Linux on the same physical machine)
  • Reduce server management requirements
  • Improve system maintenance
  • Rapid Deployment
  • Reliability  and high availability
  • Saved costs on Per/Machine or Per/Processor licenses
  • Increased flexibility
  • Recover unused capacity

How can we help?

In order to make the most out of any virtualized environment some key concepts need to be addressed, whilst it is not possible for even the most experienced virtualization administrator to avoid all the many possible problems, we at IT Live are experienced and with a track record are able to assist with many Virtualisation scenarios.

  • How to properly select virtualization candidates.
  • How to plan for a smooth transition to virtualized environment
  • Hardware choices and requirements
  • Migrate existing infrastructure to virtualized resources
  • Assist in making existing staff virtualisation ready
  • Plan and execute a virtualisation project migration
  • Implement backup and recovery resources
  • Implement disaster recovery environments
